How Ohio Department of Health uses LOINC:
We have mapped LOINC to reportable infectious disease. Our HL7 Gateway application identifies the LOINC code in electronic laboratory reports (HL7 2.3.1 format) and then, based on the mapping, routes these reports to the appropriate disease reporting application.
