Part Descriptions
LP16672-5 Bacillus anthracis
Bacillus anthracis is a Gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacterium of the genus Bacillus. A spore -forming bacterium, B. anthracis is a natural soil-dwelling organism, as well as the causative agent of anthrax.
Three forms of anthrax disease are recognized based on their form of inoculation.
- Cutaneous, the most common form (95%), causes a localized, inflammatory, black, necrotic lesion (eschar).
- Pulmonary, the highly fatal form, is characterized by sudden, massive chest edema followed by cardiovascular shock.
- Gastrointestinal, a rare but also fatal (causes death to 25%) type, results from ingestion of spores.

101363-0 Yersinia pestis DNA [Presence] in Blood by NAA with non-probe detection
Part Descriptions
LP30923-4 Yersinia pestis
Yersinia pestis is a Gram-negative bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae. The infectious agent of bubonic plague, it can also cause pneumonic and septicemic plague. All three forms have been responsible for high mortality rates in epidemics throughout human history, for example, the Great Plague and the Black Death, the latter of which accounted for the death of approximately one third of the European population in 1347 to 1353. The role of Y. pestis in the Black Death is debated among historians; some have suggested that the Black Death spread far too rapidly to be caused by Y. pestis. DNA from Y. pestis has been found in the teeth of those who died from the Black Death, however, and medieval corpses who died from other causes did not test positive for Y. pestis. , This suggests that Y. pestis was, at the very least, a contributing factor in some (though possibly not all of) the European plagues.

101365-5 Coxiella burnetii DNA [Presence] in Blood by NAA with non-probe detection
Part Descriptions
LP16682-4 Coxiella burnetii
Coxiella burnetii is an obligate intracellular, pleomorphic bacillus and is the bacterium that causes Q fever. Its only known targets are monocytes and macrophages. C burnetii infection in humans is typically asymptomatic, but in acute disease can exhibit symptoms of a self-limited flu-like illness, pneumonia or hepatitis. Symptoms of chronic C burnetii infection include primarily endocarditis, but also hepatitis and chronic fatigue syndrome. Pregnant women infected with C burnetii may experience abortions, premature deliveries, and stillbirth. Ticks are the reservoir and vector for C burnetii, and cattle, sheep, and goats are the primary sources of infection in humans. C burnetii is transmitted in infected secretions, and people with predisposing factors such as underlying disease and compromised cell-mediated immunity are at a greater risk of symptomatic infection. PMID: 16481501 The shikimate dehydrogenase gene (aroE) is a housekeeping gene of C burnetti that is targeted in nucleic acid amplification assays to aid in the diagnose C burnetii infection. 101366-3 Ebola virus RNA [Presence] in Blood by NAA with non-probe detection
Part Descriptions
LP17696-3 Ebola virus
Ebola is the virus Ebolavirus (EBOV), a viral genus, and the disease Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF), a viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF).
The virus interferes with the endothelial cells lining the interior surface of blood vessels and with coagulation. As the blood vessel walls become damaged and destroyed, the platelets are unable to coagulate, patients succumb to hypovolemic shock. Ebola is transmitted through bodily fluids, while conjunctiva exposure may also lead to transmission.
There are five recognized species within the ebolavirus genus, which have a number of specific strains. The Zaire virus is the type species, which is also the first discovered and the most lethal. Electron micrographs show long filaments, characteristic of the Filoviridae viral family.

101367-1 Marburg virus RNA [Presence] in Blood by NAA with non-probe detection
Part Descriptions
LP35811-6 Marburg virus
Marburg virus or simply Marburg is the common name for the genus of viruses Marburgvirus, which contains one species, Lake Victoria marburgvirus. The virus causes the disease Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever (MHF), also referred to as Marburg Virus Disease, and previously also known as green monkey disease due to its primate origin. Marburg originated in Central and East Africa, and infects both human and nonhuman primates. The Marburg Virus is in the same taxonomic family as Ebola, and both are identical structurally although they elicit different antibodies.

101368-9 Bacillus anthracis DNA [Presence] by NAA with non-probe detection in Positive blood culture

101371-3 Yersinia pestis DNA [Presence] by NAA with non-probe detection in Positive blood culture
