The neurological symptoms include encephalitis, autonomic failure, peripheral neuropathy, cerebellar ataxia, visual complaints and more. The neoplasm may or may not be detectable using conventional imaging modalities. Since PNS can be associated with multiple antibodies, testing usually includes a panel of PNS antibodies. In addition, the different PNS antibodies are associated with certain cancers so the antibody pattern can assist in identifying the specific tumor if it was previously undiagnosed.
