Gamma hydroxybutyrate [Presence] in Serum or Plasma by Mass Spectrometry
Active
Part Description
LP28491-6 Gamma hydroxybutyrate
Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (4-hydroxybutanoic acid) is both a drug and a naturally occurring substance found in the body. As a drug, it is approved for treatment of a rare form of narcolepsy, but is also being manufactured illegally. GHB is considered a "date rape" drug because it can be mixed with a liquid and given to unsuspecting victims. Peak plasma levels are attained approximately 30 minutes following administration. GHB and its metabolites are often hard to detect as they quickly leave the body.
