Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH or corticotropin) is a 39 amino acid polypeptide hormone synthesised from pre-opiomelanocortin (POMC). It is secreted from corticotropes in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland in response to a corticotropin-releasing hormone.
