FLAER qualification involves a fluorescent-labeled inactive toxin aerolysin, is considered to be more sensitive than flow cytometric quantification of antibody-binding to CD59 for PNH diagnosis. Reported as either normal or abnormal expression, this test is part of GPI Linked Antigens test for Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH). Individuals without Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria have normal expression of all glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked antigens, CD14 (monocytes), CD59 (neutrophils), and CD59 (RBC) on perpheral blood leukocytes and erythrocytes, and normal expression of FLAER on neutrophils.
