Glucose-6-Phosphate dehydrogenase [Enzymatic activity/mass] in Red Blood Cells by WHO method
Active
Part Description
LP15601-5 Glucose-6-Phosphate dehydrogenase
Glucose 6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency causes hemolytic anemia following the use of some drugs, bacterial or viral infections, or metabolic disorder such as acidosis. Three G6PD variants occur frequently and have clinical implications in different ethnic groups. Heinz bodies may appear in peripheral red blood cells when G6PD-mediated hemolysis occurs. Younger red cells and reticulocytes contain more G6PD and may cause normal values if blood is collected following a hemolytic crisis.
