Platelet aggregation evaluates the functional integrity of platelets. Test agents for stimulation include ADP, collagen, epinephrine, ristocetin, thrombin and arachidonic acid. Different abnormalities are detected by evaluating the response to these stimulators. Studies are usually performed after screening tests (platelet count, PT, PTT, vWD workup) for bleeding disorders are found normal.
