Neutrophils are the most common form of white blood cells in healthy adults. The cells called 'round cells' in semen and prostatic fluid are mostly comprised of white blood cells and immature spermatogenic cells. These 2 cell types are difficult to distinguish by conventional microscopy. According to the WHO manual of semen analysis, if the round cell estimate in semen exceeds 1 x 10^6 / ml, they should be further analyzed to distinguish origin and type.
