In the US Standard Certificate of Live Birth (2003), the onset of labor for a patient is recorded as one of the following: premature rupture of the membranes (prolonged, greater than or equal to 12 hours before the onset of labor), precipitous labor (less than 3 hours), prolonged labor (greater than or equal to 20 hours) or none of these.
