Ubiquitin Ag [Presence] in Tissue by Immune stain
Active
Term Description
Detects the presence of intracellular ubiquitinated filamentous inclusions in the periphery of senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer disease and lewy bodies in Parkinsion disease.
Part Description
LP173629-9 Ubiquitin
Ubiquitin is a small (8.5 kDa) regulatory protein that has been found in almost all tissues (ubiquitously) of eukaryotic organisms. There are four genes in the human genome that produce ubiquitin; UBB, UBC, UBA52 and RPS27A. Immunohistochemistry using antibodies to ubiquitin can identify abnormal accumulations of this protein inside cells, indicating a disease process. These protein accumulations are referred to as inclusion bodies (which is a general term for any microscopically visible collection of abnormal material in a cell). Examples include neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer disease, lewy body in Parkinson disease, pick bodies in Pick's disease, and inclusions in motor neuron disease and Huntington disease.
