Prealbuimn, a tetrameric protein (MW 50,000-70,000) composed of 4 chains, migrates on electrophoresis in 3 distinct fractions. It migrates faster than serum albumin and its concentration ranges from 7 to 33 percent in the serum. The levels of prealbumin levels decrease in liver disease.
