Dried blood spot (DBS) specimens have been used for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) across several classes of drugs including antimicrobials, anticonvulsants and immunosuppressants. DBS specimens are useful for TDM in infants and children due to the small sample volume required. DBS specimens are also useful for outpatient TDM in adults who have been trained to collect their own DBS because most analytes are relatively stable in DBS and the DBS card does not require specialized transportation. Linezolid is a synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the oxazolidinone class. It is used to treat bacterial infections that are resistant to multiple antimicrobial drugs including streptococcus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Linezolid prevents bacteria from initiating bacterial protein synthesis.https://www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB00601For patients with tuberculosis infection that is resistant to both isoniazid and rifampicin, the use of linezolid has shown to improve the rate of sputum culture conversion.
