Term Description
Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA) testing is used to distinguish between Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), the two most common types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Testing usually includes detecting two different classes of ASCA in the blood, IgG and IgA, as well as other antibodies, including anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA). ASCA are more common in patients with CD, while ANCA are more common in those with UC.

A food, which may result in allergy symptoms in sensitized individuals. Common names include yeast, baker's yeast, and brewer's yeast. S. cerevisiae may induce symptoms of allergy, including allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis, in sensitised individuals. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis has been reported.
