Clostridioides difficile toxin A+B tcdA+tcdB genes [Presence] in Stool by NAA with non-probe detection
Active
Term Description
Qualitative detection of nucleic acid sequences in the Clostridium difficile toxin A (tcdA) and B (tcdB) genes in stool specimens by PCR and non-probe detection methods, such as melt curve analysis. This assay does not differentiate between C. difficile toxin A and B genes. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the submitter's test kit, FilmArray Gastrointestinal Panel (GI) v2.1.

Part Description
LP204848-8 Clostridioides difficile toxin A+B tcdA+tcdB genes
Clostridium difficile toxin's A and B are encoded by the tcdA and tcdB genes, respectively. PMID: 20664812 They share similar molecular characteristics with comparable sizes (308 kD for tcdA and 269 for tcdB) and 63% homology in their amino acid sequences. PMID: 9312171 TcdA and tcdB are expressed in response to environmental stresses, such as antibiotics.[ PMID 15831824] Nucleic acid sequences within these genes are targeted to confirm the presence of C. difficile toxins and diagnose the cause of diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, nausea and other toxin-producing symptoms.
