This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, bioMerieux's VIDAS Estradiol II assay, which is intended for the quantitative measurement of 17 beta-estradiol in human serum or plasma.

LP14497-9 Estradiol
Estradiol, derived from the ovary, testis, and placenta, may be the most biologically active estrogen. It is measured in the serum to evaluate hypogonadotropic and hypoestrogenic causes of menstrual abnormalities, sexual immaturity in females, estrogen-producing tumors, and feminization in males. Estrogens are increased in liver cirrhosis and depressed in Turner's syndrome. Ingestion of estrogens, such as oral contraceptives, increases the serum levels. Source: Regenstrief Institute
