Term Description

The result for whether or not the circumferential resection margin (CRM) on the non-peritonealized surface of the resected specimen is involved. CRM involvement (1mm or less distance between tumor and CRM) is an important predictor of local recurrence in rectal carcinoma. PMID: 16328130 This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the Colorectal Cancer Structured Reporting Protocol (2nd Edition, 2012) developed by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).
