Part Description
LP248076-4 Bordetella pertussis.pertussis toxin Ab.IgG
Bordetella pertussis is a species of small, aerobic, gram-negative coccobacilli that infects the human respiratory tract and causes whooping cough. The two toxins produced by B pertussis are pertussis toxin (PT) and adenylate cyclase toxin (ACT). Both are major virulence factors. PT is a protein exotoxin that is encoded by the ptx genes. It is transported to the outer membrane of B pertussis and precipitates systemic symptoms including leukocytosis, hypoglycemia, histamine sensitivity and inhibits neutrophil recruitment and influx to the airways. PT is known to assist B pertussis in gaining entrance into mammalian cells, modifying enzymatic activities and signaling events and to moderate the host immune response. PT is a component of acellular pertussis vaccinations. PMID: 20210554 Antibody testing may be performed to study the spread of infection in an outbreak. IgG to PT will be positive in all vaccinated patients and is sometimes measured to evaluate immunity to B pertussis.[https://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/pertussis/tab/test/]
