Qualitative detection of nucleic acid sequences in Candida glabrata DNA in positive blood culture specimens by target amplification and non-probe detection methods, such as melt curve analysis. This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the submitter's test kit, FilmArray Blood Culture Identification panel v2.

Previously known as Torulopsis glabrata, Candida glabrata is a fungal saprophyte that is part of the normal flora of human mucosal tissues and is usually nonpathogenic. Unlike other species of Candida, C glabarata has a nondimorphic blastoconicial morphology and a haploid genome. C glabrata often is implicated in superficial infections of the mouth, esophagus, vagina, urinary tract, and in systemic candida infections. C glabrata infection has become common in patients on immunosuppressive therapy and in patients with diabetes. It can be difficult to treat since it is resistant to a number of antifungal agents including fluconazole. As a result, immunocompromised patients have a high mortality rate when infected with C glabrata. PMID: 9880475 Source: Regenstrief LOINC
