Haemophilus parasuis is a gram-negative organism that is harbored in the upper respiratory tract of healthy pigs. It causes Glasser's disease, which is characterized by polyarthritis, polyserositis and meningitis and associated with high morbidity and mortality. Virulence factors include resistance to phagocytosis as well as endothelial invasion, polysaccharide capsule, and biofilm production.
