Bartonella quintana DNA [Presence] in Implanted device by NAA with probe detection
Active
Term Description
Several species of Bartonella have been associated with culture-negative endocarditis, with B. henselae and B. quintana being most common. Because cultures are sterile, diagnosis relies on other methodologies such as molecular techniques. PMID: 11897074 Such infections may involve native or prosthetic valves.

Part Descriptions
LP14387-2 Bartonella quintana
Bartonella quintana is a slim, fastidious coccobacillus spread through body lice. It is most commonly associated with trench fever, but can cause bacillary splenitis, bacteremia, as well as other diseases. B. quintana is present across the globe and is most commonly found in impoverished, crowded and unhygienic conditions such as refugee or homeless camps.[TFMD: Bartonella+quintana]. A combination of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays and indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) are used to detect Bartonella quintana and distinguish it from other Bartonella species.[ECDC: bartonella-quintana-infection-trench-fever]

LP183564-6 Implanted device
The "'Implanted device" System in LOINC represents a device inserted into the body that replaces, repairs, or enhances a native body part. Such devices are sometimes called internal prosthetics. Examples include artificial heart valves, cochlear implants, orthopedic hardware, and intravascular filters. This System does not include external prosthetic devices such as limb prostheses.
