Part Description
LP19557-5 Transferrin.carbohydrate deficient.trisialo
Carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT) are transferrin glycoproteins that have decreased or absent sialic acid residues and reduced numbers of oligosaccharide chains. Transferrin (Tf) normally has two N-linked oligosaccharide chains with two sialic acid residues each, so exists primarily in the tetra-sialo isoform. Forms of CDT include the tri-sialo form, with three instead of four sialic residues, and di-sialo, with two sialic acid residues. The hyposialylation or desialylation of transferrin is associated with congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG), alcohol abuse, fructosemia, and galactosemia. Tf is the most prevalent and studied glycoprotein, and the evaluation of its isoforms is one of the screening assays used to rule out CDG. Manifestations of CDG are widely variable and can range from severe retardation with dysmorphic physical features, to mild retardation or no detectable symptoms. PMID: 28236367
