Candida famata is a fungus that belongs to the "flavinogenic yeast" group, oversynthesizing riboflavin under conditions of iron starvation. Alternative names have been listed as Debaryomyces hansenii (the telomorphic form) and Torulopsis candida. C. famata is often misidentified as C. guilliermondii due to phenotypic similarity. C. famata is a commensal organism that is found in cheese, dairy products, and the environment. It is a rare cause of candidiasis, with reported infections of catheters, the retina, mediastinum, and blood.
