The immunofluorescence pattern for THSD7A antibodies is fine granular cytoplastic staining with prominence of the cell membrane. Cell nuclei should not fluoresce. This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the EUROIMMUN Anti-THSD7A IFA test kit.

Thrombospondin type-1 domain-containing protein 7A (THSD7A) is a membrane protein that was initially characterized in placental endothelia, but is also expressed on the basal aspect of podocytes of the kidney. It has been reported to play a role in actin cytoskeletal integrity, and its soluble form has been shown to promote endothelial cell migration and filopodia formation. Autoantibodies against THSD7A have been demonstrated to be present in a small subset of patients with idiopathic/primary membranous nephropathy (MN) who do not demonstrate antibodies against the primary target in that disease, the phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) PMID: 25394321.
