Quantitative detection of IgG antibodies against thrombospondin type-1 domain-containing protein 7A (THSD7A) in serum or plasma by immunofluorescent methods to assist in the diagnosis of primary membranous nephropathy (pMN, also known as primary membranous flomerulonephritis, pMGN). This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the submitter's test kit, EUROIMMUN Anti-THSD7A IIFT, which provides qualitative or semiquantitative determination of IgG antibodies against THSD7A.

Thrombospondin type-1 domain-containing protein 7A (THSD7A) is a membrane protein that was initially characterized in placental endothelia, but is also expressed on the basal aspect of podocytes of the kidney. It has been reported to play a role in actin cytoskeletal integrity, and its soluble form has been shown to promote endothelial cell migration and filopodia formation. Autoantibodies against THSD7A have been demonstrated to be present in a small subset of patients with idiopathic/primary membranous nephropathy (MN) who do not demonstrate antibodies against the primary target in that disease, the phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) PMID: 25394321.
