Part Descriptions
LP14355-9 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.

33782-4 Retinol binding protein [Mass/volume] in Urine
Part Descriptions
LP15378-0 Retinol binding protein
Retinol binding proteins (RBPs) are a family of carrier proteins that bind retinol. The term "retinol binding protein" (singular) in the clinical literature commonly refers to the circulating form that transports retinol from the liver to peripheral tissues. This form, RBP4, is a low molecular weight protein 21kD in size that is sometimes referred to as alpha-2-microglobulin in older literature (for example see https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.3109/00365597409132815). Because RBP4 is extensively reabsorbed by the kidney tubules, very little normally appears in excreted urine. An increase in the urinary excretion of retinol binding protein indicates impaired proximal tubular function. This can be caused by renal tubulointerstitial nephritis, tubular toxicity from heavy metal or nephrotoxic drug exposure, glomerulonephropathies and renal vasculopathies PMID: 11961401.
