Scores from the four LACE index elements (L - length of stay, A - acuity of admission, C - comorbidities, and E - Emergency department use) are summed for an overall Lace index score which ranges from 0-19. Higher scores are associated with greater risk of hospital readmission and/or death within 30 days of hospital discharge. PMID: 20194559
