Cytokeratin 8 (CK8) is a type 2 keratin and one of the intermediate filament proteins. CK8 is typically found with CK18; together the two keratins form insoluble filaments that extend from the nucleus to the plasma membrane. CK8 and 18 also interact with plakins and proteins that have transmembrane domains at desmosomes and hemidesmosomes.
