Part Description

LP426535-3   Vespa velutina
The Asian hornet (Vespa velutina), also known as the yellow-legged hornet, is a species of hornet native to Southeast Asia. It is considered an invasive species in certain European countries. [PMID: 31700565] Vespa velutina stings can provoke allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Studies have shown that patients presenting with anaphylaxis have specific IgE (sIgE) against Vespula spp venom and its allergen components, Ves v 5 and Ves v 1. [PMID: 32939859] Specific venom treatment is not available, although some success has been reported with using yellow jacket venom for immunotherapy. [PMID: 23363701] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
