Term Description

The American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) Impairment Scale provides a standardized method of documenting spinal cord injuries, inform additional radiology measures, and determine the degree of impairment. Results are reported as Grades A-E. Grade A is considered a complete injury, with no sensory or motor function in sacral segments S4-S5; Grades B-D represent decreasing degrees of incomplete sensory and motor function impairment; and Grade E is considered normal, with sensory and motor function testing as normal in all segments.
