Qualitative detection of nucleic acids within the beta-lactamase OXA-143 gene (blaOXA-143) found in Gram-negative bacteria. Testing may be performed in addition to conventional culture susceptibility testing to determine the potential bacterial resistance mechanism to antibiotics, including penicillins, cephalosporins and carbapenems.

OXA beta-lactamase genes make up the second largest family of antibiotic resistance genes in gram negative bacteria. These genes produce enzymes that confer resistance to penicillins, cephalosporins and carbapenems. Molecular detection is performed to screen for pathogens, control the spread of infections, and for use in epidemiological data.
