A siderocyte is red blood cell with granular inclusion bodies that contain enough ferric iron to give a positive Prussian-blue reaction. Testing may aid in the identification of sideroblastic and hemolytic anemias. Siderocytes are uncommon in peripheral blood unless a splenectomy has been performed.
