Version 2.78

Description

Staphylococcus lugdunensis is a coagulase-negative, Gram-positive bacterium and a component of normal human skin flora. However, since the 1990s, this organism has been increasingly implicated in a wide range of severe infections, including osteoarticular infections, bacteremia, foreign body infections, and endocarditis. This information, taken together with its proven ability to produce a number of virulence factors, places S. lugdunensis in the category of emerging pathogen. Unlike many fellow coagulase-negative staphylococci, it is susceptible to a wide range of antimicrobials PMID: 28835477. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
