Test to detect allergy to rice, the allergen code is f9. All rice grown in the United States and most of that grown in other countries belongs to the species Oryza sativa in the family Poaceae. Rice is a staple food for almost half the world's population. Rice may be cultivated in flooded fields(paddy-grown) or hill-grown(lower quality) on tropical or subtropical terrain. White rice has the husk, bran and germ removed. Brown rice has only the inedible husk removed. Proteins with molecular masses of 14-16, 26, 33, and 56 kDa are potentially allergeneic in patients with rice allergy. Extensive cross-reactivity occurs among pollen of the different species within the Poaceae occurs frequently. Rice allergy may induce symptoms of food allergy, asthma, rhinitis, eczema, and urticaria in areas where rice is a staple food, like the Far East. Copyright Copyright © 2006 Phadia AB.
