66881-4 Skin IgG Ab [Presence] in Serum by Monkey esophagus substrate
Term Description
The detection of skin antibodies assists in the diagnosis of chronic vesicular-bullous diseases such as pemphigus and pemphigoid. When patient sera are incubated on monkey or guinea pig esophagus sections, anti-skin antibodies present in the serum will bind with disease-specific patterns by immunofluorescence. For example, the intercellular (IC) antibody pattern diagnoses pemphigus with a 90% sensitivity. Testing with the 2 different species of esophagus sections (monkey and guinea pig) assists in distinguishing different forms of pemphigus. Antibodies following a basement membrane pattern are present in bullous pemphigoid (70%), vesicular pemphigoid (50%) and cicatricial pemphigoid (10%).

- Change Reason
- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.

104836-2 Basement membrane IgG Ab [Titer] in Serum by Immunofluorescence
Part Descriptions
LP14903-6 Basement membrane
The basement membrane is a thin sheet of fibers that underlies the epithelium, which lines the cavities and surfaces of organs including skin, or the endothelium, which lines the interior surface of blood vessels.
The primary function of the basement membrane is to anchor down the epithelium to its loose connective tissue underneath. This is achieved by cell-matrix adhesions through substrate adhesion molecules. A group of diseases stemming from improper function of basement membrane zone are united under the name epidermolysis bullosa.

LP14903-6 Basement membrane
A darkly stained mat-like EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX (ECM) that separates cell layers, such as EPITHELIUM from ENDOTHELIUM or a layer of CONNECTIVE TISSUE. The ECM layer that supports an overlying EPITHELIUM or ENDOTHELIUM is called basal lamina. Basement membrane (BM) can be formed by the fusion of either two adjacent basal laminae or a basal lamina with an adjacent reticular lamina of connective tissue. BM, composed mainly of TYPE IV COLLAGEN; glycoprotein LAMININ; and PROTEOGLYCAN, provides barriers as well as channels between interacting cell layers.

104831-3 Intercellular substance IgG Ab [Titer] in Serum by Immunofluorescence
Part Descriptions
LP14904-4 Intercellular substance
Intercellular substance (ICS) antibodies are antibodies to any one of several intercellular antigens, including the desmosomal cadherins desmoglein 1 and 3, and desmocollin 1, 2, and 3, which play a role in cell to cell adhesion. ICS antibodies, especially of type IgG, are associated with paraneoplastic pemphigus (PNP), also known as paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorgan syndrome (PAMS), as well as with other forms of pemphigus including pemphigus foliaceus and pemphigus vulgaris. ICS antibody deposition has a characteristic web- or honeycomb-like fluorescent pattern. PMID: 31214197
