Term Description
This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, Pathogenius Laboratories' Level 1 Wound and/or ENT test panels, which use quantitative PCR to identify commonly-found microorganisms in wound or ear, nose, and throat samples, respectively.

Part Description
LP185683-2 Enterococcus faecium sodA gene
Enterococci species are common pathogens in hospital-acquired infections, including urinary tract infections and surgical wound infections. The sodA gene is conserved across enterococcus species, but the variability of a specific internal sodA sequence can be used to differentiate between enterococcus species. A particular sodA sequence identifies Enterococcus faecium, and the identification of this sequence in a clinical specimen can be used to identify E faecium as the pathogen responsible for a particular infection. PMID: 10618129 Likewise, the cpn60 gene is conserved across many bacterial genera, but it also contains an internal sequence with enough variation to distinguish among different enterococcus species. Identification of a particular cpn60 sequence in a clinical specimen has been used to identify Enterococcus faecalis as a causative infectious organism. PMID: 11060051

- Change Reason
- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
