Enterobacteriaceae.carbapenem resistant [Presence] in Anorectal or stool specimen by Organism specific culture
Active
Term Description
Carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriacae (CRE) screening may be performed using a rectal swab plated onto a culture medium containing high concentrations of a carbapenem. Any bacterial growth will be identified and full susceptibility performed. Testing can be performed on peri-anal swabs, stool specimen swabs, or stool specimens as well.

Part Descriptions
LP172817-1 Enterobacteriaceae.carbapenem resistant
Carbapenem resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE), are a family of gram-negative bacteria that are difficult to treat because they have high levels of resistance to antibiotics. Klebsiella sp. and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are examples of enterobacteriaceae, a normal part of the human intestinal flora, that can become carbapenem resistant. Types of CRE are sometimes known as KPC (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase) and NDM (New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase). People that are healthy usually do not get CRE infections.[CDC]

LP6429-7 Organism specific culture
An organism-specific culture contains nutrients that optimize the growth of a specific organism and inhibitors that prevent the growth of competing organisms.

- Change Reason
- The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.; Corrected "carbapenemase" to "carbapenem" in Component (bacteria produce carbapenemase, which makes them resistant to carbapenems)
