Bacilliform bacteria [Presence] in Ear by Light microscopy
Active
Term Description
The presence (none, few, marked, etc.) of bacilliform (rod-shaped) bacteria in an ear swab sample taken from the left external ear. In veterinary medicine, the presence of rod-shaped bacteria is an indication for treatment with systemic antibiotics rather than topical. Common bacilliform organisms include Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Proteus mirabilis.[MERCK VET: eye-and-ear] The clinical course for each ear may be tracked separately in order to monitor response to treatment.
