Part Descriptions
LP97940-8 HLA-B*15:02
The human leukocyte antigen B (HLA-B; [HGNC Gene ID: 4932]) plays an important role in how the immune system recognizes and responds to pathogens. HLA-B belongs to a class of molecules that are found on the surface of most cells. These molecules are responsible for presenting peptides to immune cells. Peptides derived from normal human proteins are recognized as such, whereas foreign peptides derived from pathogens trigger an immune response. Antiepileptics with an aromatic ring, for example carbamazepine and phenytoin, interact with HLA-B*15:02 and alter the repertoire of self-peptides that are presented to T lymphocytes, which activates an immune reaction known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis. PMID: 23695185 PMID: 25099164. See https://www.pharmgkb.org/gene/PA35056 for more information and dosing guidelines for drugs impacted by HLA-B genetic variation.

- Change Reason
- This test is commonly performed on cells found in saliva and buccal swabs as well as blood specimens. Changed specimen from 'Bld' to 'Bld/Tiss' to represent both specimen types.; The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.

93308-5 Genetic variation's effect on risk of adverse drug reaction
Term Description
The predicted risk of an adverse drug reaction based on the variant(s) detected. For example, a patient who is HLA-B*57:01 positive has a significant risk of abacavir hypersensitivity reactions (HSR). For individuals taking pazopanib and found to be HLA-B*57:01 carriers, they have an increased risk of elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels when taking pazopanib.
