Part Descriptions
LP18038-7 Oligosaccharides
Carbohydrates consisting of between two (DISACCHARIDES) and ten MONOSACCHARIDES connected by either an alpha- or beta-glycosidic link. They are found throughout nature in both the free and bound form.

LP18038-7 Oligosaccharides
An oligosaccharide (from the Greek oligos, a few, and sacchar, sugar) is a saccharide polymer containing a small number (typically three to nine) of simple sugars (monosaccharides). Oligosaccharides can have many functions; for example, they are commonly found on the plasma membrane of animal cells where they can play a role in cell-cell recognition. Oligosaccharides analysis may be performed to detect various lysosomal storage diseases.

34680-9 Ceramide trihexoside [Presence] in Urine
Part Descriptions
LP32727-7 Ceramide trihexoside
Globotriaosylceramide is a ganglioside. It is also known as "ceramide trihexoside". It is also known as "CD77". It is one of the few clusters of differentiation that is not a protein.
It is formed by A4GALT and is metabolized by Alpha-galactosidase.
Defects in the enzyme alpha-galactosidase lead to the build up of globotriaosylceramide, and this is the cause of Fabry's disease. Globotriaosylceramide is also the one of the targets of Shiga toxin, which is responsible for pathogenicity of Escherichia coli.

92806-9 Keratan sulfate/Creatinine [Ratio] in Urine
Part Descriptions
LP14490-4 Keratan sulfate
A sulfated mucopolysaccharide initially isolated from bovine cornea. At least two types are known. Type I, found mostly in the cornea, contains D-galactose and D-glucosamine-6-O-sulfate as the repeating unit; type II, found in skeletal tissues, contains D-galactose and D-galactosamine-6-O-sulfate as the repeating unit.
Source: National Library of Medicine, MeSH 2006
LP14490-4 Keratan sulfate
Keratan sulfate (KS) is one of the glycosaminoglycans found primarily in the cornea, nervous tissue, and bone. When the enzyme that breaks down KS is deficient or absent, KS accumulates in lysosomes which results in cell, tissue, and organ dysfunction. The lysosomal storage disorders are known as mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) and can involve impaired enzymatic function that blocks the catabolism of any of the glycosaminoglycans, including dermatan sulfate, heparin sulfate, keratan sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, or hyaluronan. MPS due to the accumulation of any one or more glycosaminoglycans have many symptoms in common including a chronic or progressive course, multisystem involvement, organomegaly, dysostosis multiplex, abnormal facies, affected hearing, affected vision, affected airway, cardiovascular issues, profound mental retardation, and joint mobility difficulties. MPS can be diagnosed by testing for the deficient or absent enzyme. Enzyme replacement therapy is used to monitor treatment.[https://ommbid.mhmedical.com/content.aspx?bookid=971§ionid=62642135]

LP32035-5 Creatinine
Creatinine or creatine anhydride, is a breakdown product of creatine phosphate in muscle. The loss of water molecule from creatine results in the formation of creatinine. It is transferred to the kidneys by blood plasma, whereupon it is eliminated by glomular filtration and partial tubular excretion. Creatinine is usually produced at a fairly constant rate and measuring its serum level is a simple test. A rise in blood creatinine levels is observed only with marked damage to functioning nephrons; therefore this test is not suitable for detecting early kidney disease. Creatine and creatinine are metabolized in the kidneys, muscle, liver and pancreas.

94693-9 Heparan sulfate/Creatinine [Ratio] in Urine
Part Descriptions
LP15629-6 Heparan sulfate
Heparan sulfate is a derived disaccharide that accumulates in lysosomes, extracellular matrix, and body fluids of people with mucopolysaccharidoses (MPSs). MPSs are rare disorders caused by a deficiency of enzymes that break down glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Symptoms of MPS vary due to which storage product accumulates and the level of enzymatic function or concentration that remains. Symptoms include musculoskeletal, airway, cardiac, and central nervous system disorders. Treatments include hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for the more critical forms of MPS and intravenous enzyme replacement therapy for the others. Treatment is most effective when it is initiated before irreversible tissue damage has occurred. Because MPS is so rare and the symptoms so variable, it is difficult to diagnose in its earliest stages. A solution to that problem is the development of newborn screening assays that can detect heparan sulfate, though the levels in the dried blood spot samples do not appear to predict the severity of disease. The pattern of dermatan and heparan sulfate can help distinguish between the different MPSs. PMID: 23084433

Part Descriptions
